Cultivating gardens and community at LA’s first edible-only organic nursery and supply store.

It’s rare to come across a neighborhood business as organic as Fig Earth Supply located along N. Figueroa Street in Northeast LA.

Owner Conor Fitzpatrick started building his own raised garden beds 15 years ago. A raised bed is a plot of soil put on top of the native soil or a non-dirt surface. Think of it as a really big flowerpot. The number one reason raised beds are planted is because of poor soil quality. There are other advantages to raised beds, such as: more control over the soil quality specific to the items you want to plant; the soil is less compacted than the ground; raised beds require less maintenance over time than traditional garden beds; and, raised beds warm up faster than the earth making early garden planting more realistic in colder climates.

Wanting to share his passion with others, in 2008 Conner started MinifarmBox, custom cedar-raised beds and planters for gardeners who are inspired to grow their own food.
